|An unincorporated association is a group of persons. |
The association has no separate identity from its members. The association is no more than the sum of its parts. The unincorporated association cannot achieve much in its own right and it has some significant limitations, including no limited liability for members.
Many unincorporated associations eventually decide to incorporate in order to obtain limited liability for members or to apply for government funding.
A group of people decide to coordinate their activities to assist newly arrived migrants and refugees but do actually take any steps to formalise the legal status of their group.
